The Community Meal and Food Distribution for Thanksgiving is officially complete. First and foremost, we want to say thank you to our partners!
In addition to feeding hundreds of people a hot meal of hamburgers and hot dogs, we also gave bags of food to more than 300 families. We estimate the food provided will feed at least 1,200 people a great Thanksgiving meal.
The OneCity Initiative team will soon meet evaluate this year’s meal and food distribution and begin planning for next year’s event, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2020.
We are excited about next year’s event and the opportunities we’ll have to minister and serve our community.
For the last three years, One City Initiative has served the residents of Jacksonville a free Community Thanksgiving Meal. With the new Jacksonville High School facility still under construction, we’re doing things a little differently. Our goal is to feed 1,000 people a hot meal at the Old Jacksonville High School Field House on Sunday, November 24.
But we want to go a step further. We also hope to distribute 300 Thanksgiving meal bags. Each bag includes a turkey or ham and enough food to feed a family of four a great Thanksgiving meal. That means that this year, we’re feeding people a hot meal … and we’re sending them home with enough food to feed their whole family for Thanksgiving!
First Baptist, Second Baptist, and Crossroads Freewill Baptist have partnered together to provide over 1,500 cans of food for these bags. However, we know our efforts would go even farther with your help. Would you consider helping us to provide food for our community? With your help, we are sure to achieve our goal to provide 1,000 hot meals & 300 bags of food for local families.
